Beacon Community Center

The Beacon Community Center at I.S. 5 offers opportunities for your family to participate in a broad range of educational, fitness, and cultural activities.

The Beacon serves children, teenagers, and adults, offering structured after-school programs and drop-in activities. After-school and summer camp programs are available for students in grades K – 8.

Health fairs and other events bring together local residents to celebrate the community’s diversity. SCS’ services at the Beacon are strengthened through collaborations with many other local community organizations.

ESOL (Starting September 2015)

Our free English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program can help you build the skills you need to communicate with employers, doctors, landlords, your children’s teachers, and others. For people working to build foundational English skills, and for those working to build a greater level of comfort in speaking, we can help you work towards your goals. Our instructors can work with you to help improve your speaking, listening, and writing abilities, and can adapt their teaching strategies to suit your learning style.

Sunnyside Community Services’ Beacon Community Center is funded by the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development.
